Jr. Olympics

Wilson Does Teton Proud at Junior Olympic XC

Through rain or sleet or hail or snow

Conditions were far from optimal at the National XC Championship race in Reno, Nevada this past Saturday as the area was slammed with a heavy snow storm but Tavner Wilson, son of Lorin and Liza Wilson seemed quite at home. Wilson ran his 2nd fastest 5k ever clocking in a 17:11 on a hilly course covered with hard-packed layer of ice and snow. He was 39th out of 150, 17 & 18 year olds.
Over 2000 runners from across the nation converged on Reno for the runoff of the season. The first mad scramble was to buy warmer clothing and spiked racing shoes especially for those coming from the warmer climes of the country. Team Idaho with 42 competitors felt that the conditions were in their favor. Michell Hickerson and Emily Nist also of Team Idaho ran away with the top honors for the women’s divisions in the 17 &18 year olds and 15 & 16 years respectively. Nice winnings for Idaho in Reno.

Aunt Christy and Uncle Dan joined the fan club for both Tavner and Julia Rummens son, Kyle. The Dyers fed us and gave us a warm bed and the kindest of hospitality.

  1. now I know we totally missed out on a fun weekend in Reno. Snow, and a race in the snow. How awesome... I wish I could have been there.

  2. They had to buy spiked shoes for those coming from warmer climates? Like sunny warm Wyoming, for instance? How neat that Julia and hers were there too!
